Why the salary rises faster than the take-home
Each extra $1 of take-home costs more than $1 of salary, and the gap grows in each higher tax band. Between $135,000 and $190,000 each extra dollar of take-home needs about $1.64 of salary (37% tax plus the 2% Medicare levy); above $190,000, about $1.89.
